Plan a Poker Party
Hosting a poker game during a party is a nice idea. The game of poker is not restricted to land-based or online casinos. In fact, poker started as a card game played at home. Then history tells us of gambling being banned at homes that it was played in drinking saloons. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are planning host a poker game at home.
The number of players going to casinos over the weekend is exploding! So while others take on the road towards Vegas, why not plan a poker party in your house and invite your neighbors over. Note: be knowledgeable of rules regarding gambling games played at home in your state: if it is allowed and what are the limitations. Usually, small limited bets need have permits to play but those with high stakes are the ones the authorities are after.
When you send out printed invitations make sure the rules of the game are included. It could also be that the rules are said during the party date before the games are played; the thing is that all players should know the special rules that are in effect.
When anyone thinks of party, it is most of the time equated with good food. It would be great if you plan on the menu thoroughly and not just on preparing for the game.
As for the game equipment, it is not necessary that you buy the best playing cards and those expensive poker chips to get on going. Average cards and poker chips are just great for any home poker game.
As for the setting of the game tables and chairs, please avoid playing on the floor especially if you intend the game to be played all night long. Provide proper table and seats because several hours of play will make your guest uneasy. They might be complaining of muscle aches. Prepare for the poker party with enough tables for your players. The kitchen and dining tables could be used if it is okay with you. The number of players to each table should be limited to eight players at most. If you go over that number, players might be playing elbow to elbow. And that is not very comfortable.
Provide alternative entertainment like turning on the television set or have a chatting couch. Those players who folded early in the game may have something to do while passing the time away or when waiting for another round of play.
Another great idea would be to set up a side table where informal poker is played. Here players can quit any time when a regular table is opening a new game. There will also be not betting on the side table. Games played among good players usually last an hour or more so help the other players from being bored.
Make sure the ambience has good lighting and keep the music low. Good lighting does not necessarily mean adding more light fixtures to your home but just enough for your players to see their cards clearly. Keep the music low so as not to distract your player's concentration on the game.
Now, what should you do when hosting a poker party? Establish clear game rules, prepare good food, ready good playing equipment and have a comfortable place to play poker.
